I served 06-08 in Iraq with the US Army. My unit ran combat patrols from Al Asad to Camp Korean Village to TQ. Matt, you are so not alone and thanks for your service man. God bless!

Your not alone is right, I did 4 tours in Iraq and live with every piece of shit memory of that country. I think its funny you say "I don't want to sound like a sappy piece of shit" but you do not, many of us talk about what we saw over there because A) they're full of shit or B) we don't like sounding like sappy pieces of shit. But I'll tell you this your a brave sappy piece of shit brother for talking about it.

It really stuck with your words about going in there feeling 10 ft tall and thinking your the shit. My brother is in the reserves and i fear for him to end up in Iraq. He however, can't wait to go he wants to shoot things and kick ass and so on, thinking he will be bullet proof. I keep telling him its not like he thinks its going to be. I just hope its not too hard of a lesson for him to learn.

This was amazing! I really enjoyed watching you tell your story. I am glad to see that you are doing so well for yourself. I know that doing this must have been really hard for you, but from what I can tell by your post interviews, you are glad that you did it. I am proud of you.

matt-- All I can say is thank you. I'm glad you are alive, and I hope you become the best teacher you can be--your students will appreciate that you are real. I hope you live a long, happy, healthy life.

Thank you so much for all you do. Because of you, we are able to sin, relax, have fun and not think about it. Our son is in the Army and has had one tour in Afghanistan. He did not talk too much about it while home but we got bits and pieces of how life was over there. Not good. We are so proud of him and all of you men and women whom are there to protect us. I have the upmost reverance for you all.Thank you so much.

You tell the truth. I served two tours 2003-04 and 2007 in a National Guard HET company(transportation). I saw the whole country of Iraq. You never knew when or where you might be it only that it could happen any where, any time. As the saying goes "smiling faces show no danger from the evil that lurks with in." It wasn't personal it was just survival. You got a good handle on life I am sure your experience will help you understand people better.
