Ben Reynolds, Mike Tamburo, Evening Fires to play Schlow Library on Wednesday

You’ll be able to find something more than books at The Schlow Center Region Library on Wednesday, November 18th.

The library will be hosting a concert featuring three artists – Scottish singer/songwriter Ben Reynolds, Pittsburgh native Mike Tamburo, and the State-College based band Evening Fires will play in the library’s Community Rooms.

Ben Reynolds plays a unique kind of folk-rock that features his articulate vocals and intricate steel string guitar, drawing from musical traditions of Great Britain and American folk. He is currently touring in support of his record How Day Earnt Its Night, released on Tompkins Sqaure Records in June of this year. Reynolds has collaborated with several musical projects, including Motor Ghost, Baby Dee,Ashtray Navigations, Nalle, and Directing Hand. He is also a member of the U.K. group Trembling Bells, which recently released its acclaimed debut album Carbeth.

Mike Tamburo is a multi-instrumentalist interested in everything from yoga to ethnobotany. His somewhat experimental music blends elements of American folk, Indian classical music, and the avant-garde compositions of John Cage. Tamburo constantly records music, makes films, writes, and runs the label New American Folk Hero. You can find more information about his projects here (http://www.miketamburo.com/).

Evening Fires is a six-piece band that plays “transportive sounds for open ears”, a combination where acoustic guitars and folk music meet rustic, psychedelic effects. They’re a bit like Explosions in the Sky would be if they hid out in the Appalachian Forest and eschewed some of the more traditional elements of a rock band. Evening Fires’ most recent album, Waves in the Air, was released by Deep Water Records earlier this year.
