Karen’s Song of the Week: “Oppa Space Jam Style” mashup
Posted by Karen Marchuska on 09/29 at 01:04 AM
This mashup was just too good to pass up. It’s a mix of the recent viral video by Korean artist PSY, “Gangnam Style,” and a song from the 90s we all probably know very well, from the Space Jam movie, by the Quad City DJs.
It was posted on SoundCloud about 2 weeks ago when “Gangnam Style” was becoming popular by user jhlodin, who has several other mashups using “Space Jam” on his page. He noted that “the two songs [Gangnam Style and Space Jam] have the exact same BPM and key, so I had NO CHOICE but to put on the finishing touches.”
I’d have to agree with him, the songs just sound great together. With Gangnam Style rocketing to fame as fast as it did, mashups were expected to start popping up, and for how quick this one went up it’s really well done. It also makes the song more accessible for us Americans - there’s actually some words we can understand!
I know this song isn’t of the same caliber as the other ones I’ve been showcasing in these posts, but I felt it would be a crime to not share this with my fellow 90’s kids. Either that, or I’m still on a pop/dance kick from my run-in with Carly Rae Jepsen.
