Marina and the Diamonds & Charli XCX Join Forces on “Just Desserts”

Revenge never tasted so sweet - that is, not since British pop artists Marina and the Diamonds & Charli XCX recently released a playfully dark pop duet, “Just Desserts” just in time for their joint North American tour.  It was only a matter of time before these two ladies joined forces as two of the edgier pop artists in the mainstream, and it is no surprise their collaboration is the essence of the two - playful, ironic, and smart.

Charli XCX speak-sings “you sucked me in through the cinnamon stars/‘cause you tasted so bitter but the bitter was sweet/I’m the lovelorn princess and I’m yours to eat.”

“Yeah baby, I know that it hurts/when you’re about to get your just desserts,” a delicious swirl of sweet revenge.

Marina and the Diamonds’s most recent album “Electra Heart” bared fun, sarcasm-drenched singles like “How to be a Heart Breaker” and “Primadonna.” And although Charli XCX’s name may seem unfamiliar, there is no doubt you’ve heard her featured on the popular track, and her breakthrough hit, Icona Pop’s “I Love It”.  Her debut album, True Romance which was released in 2011, has yielded singles like “You’re the One” and my personal favorite “Nuclear Seasons”.

The two are wrapping up their North American tour together, with the last show in Brooklyn, NY on May 31st.
