Sowing the Seeds of a Great Marriage

Going to go a bit off-topic here, but I had to share this story with everyone who reads this blog. Gardening is something that often is done together by couples and who knows how many relationships are sparked at a plant sale or garden center. However, gardening is not really thought of something as romantic, per se.

A blog post this week by another garden blogger, Doug Oster of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, may change some minds. Doug tells the story of how a gardening enthusiast, Kevin Robinson, proposed to the love of his life Kelly Ogrodnik, another gardening enthusiast who is also sustainable design and program manager at Pittsburgh’s amazing Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.

The way Kevin proposes is clever and any garden romantic will love the symbolism of planting a seed of marriage. To read how he did it, please go to Doug’s excellent blog, Gardening with Doug.

“Towards the end of August Kevin tried to schedule the planting of their fall garden with cool weather plants, but Kelly was busy, ‘maybe over the weekend,’ she said.

They set a date for planting, but Kelly got home too late from her grandmother’s house. She went upstairs to change, as she walked back down the sounds of Van Morrison filled the room and there were roses on the table.”
