Sublime opening for 311 in Pittsburgh July 12 for Unity Tour

Next Tuesday, July 12, 2011, the legendary Cali band, Sublime, will be making a stop at Stage AE in Pittsburgh. They are the openers for another fellow legendary ska-reggae band, 311.
Who: 311 with Sublime
Where: Stage AE, Pittsburgh, PA
When: July 12 - Doors open at 6PM
The two bands have teamed up for the Unity Tour 2011, and promise to continue the laid-back style that made them famous in the early ‘90s.
Some of Sublime’s most well-known songs include What I Got and Santeria. Hits like Amber and Love Song (a cover by the Cure) belong to 311. In fact, each band formed in the year 1988: Sublime in California, and 311 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Nick Hexum (vocals/guitar), Jim Watson (lead guitar, later replaced by Tim Mahoney), Aaron “P-Nut” Wills (bass), and Chad Sexton (percussion) make up 311. They have continued creating albums and touring since their start. To date, they’ve sold over 8 million records.
Sublime split in 1996 following the terribly unfortunate death, via overdose, of the band’s lead singer/guitarist, Bradley Nowell. The remaining members, Bud Gaugh (percussion) and Eric Wilson (bass guitar) decided to reform the band in 2009 after recruiting Rome Ramirez to take the place of Nowell. This latest tour officially acknowledges the newly reformed band as “Sublime with Rome,” after settling a trademark infringement lawsuit. Nowell owned the rights to the name Sublime and his estate withheld permission for its use by itself.
Nowell’s sinfully sweet voice and carefree attitude brought a flavor to Sublime that has made the band’s signature sound timeless. Only time will tell if Ramirez can recreate the unique of soulful sound hardcore fans like myself are expecting to see. Sublime with Rome’s debut album Your’s Truly is set to be released the day of the concert in Pittsburgh.

She finds pleasure in traveling, attending concerts, and literary symbolism. Lindsay has an eclectic taste in music which ranges from her favorite rap artist, Notorious B.I.G., to her favorite indie darling, Modest Mouse. But what she enjoys most is when two unlikely musical genres successfully combine to create a new aesthetic, such as can be found in the band Brokencyde.
