Shape-note singing is an American folk music tradition extending back over 200 years. Singing is from “The Sacred Harp” collection of folk hymns and spiritual songs. The music is written in standard notation, but uses shaped notes—triangles, circles, squares, and diamonds—to help singers more easily learn their parts. Singers arrange themselves facing
inward in a hollow square, singing for each other and not an audience.  Shape-note singing is experiencing a resurgence of popularity, and was featured in the movie “Cold Mountain”.  An introductory singing school begins at 6:45, and the main singing begins at 7:00. No musical experience is required, and beginners and listeners are welcome
