The Last Stop Lineup
Posted by Carly Mallenbaum on 04/29 at 03:34 PM
Next Friday, April 30 is “The Last Stop,” a music festival to be held at 6:30 p.m. at the HUB lawn. Tickets to the show are FREE. The headliners for the festival were just announced, so I decided to talk to two of my music-loving friends (who are in my apartment right now) about what they think of the bands chosen to play (you can click on the bands and songs to go to different pages):

Review: Man Man and The Apples in stereo
Posted by Charlee Redman on 04/28 at 12:08 PM
Sometimes it takes a few songs for a performance to truly start, to move past the preliminaries and engage an audience. Maybe it was the dismal Monday evening weather or the mountainous pre-finals week workload weighing on our minds. But the rain didn’t hamper SOMA‘s final concert of the year in Heritage Hall, after the show began to warm up.

Los Campesinos!/Cymbals Eat Guitars Replaced
Posted by Charlee Redman on 04/22 at 11:02 AM
Blame Eyjafjallajokull, that pesky volcano up in Iceland. Ash clouds resulting from its eruption a few days ago are hovering over the northern hemisphere, grounding flights all over Europe.
Unfortunately, Los Campesinos! and Cymbals Eat Guitars have re-scheduled much of their tour and cancelled the show at Penn State on Monday April 26th. (If you really want to see them, they’ll be playing in New York City and various other locations in the northeast in a few weeks.)
But volcanic activity won’t stop the music.

The Show Must Move On
Posted by Charlee Redman on 04/20 at 10:39 AM
Last Saturday the artists and crew of Movin’ On upheld the festival’s spirit in a way they may not have been expecting. It was a literal moving on, facing difficulties and continuing despite the challenges. There was snow, hail, a little rain, an injured drummer, tuning problems, and malfunctioning sound equipment. But the show went on.

Free Concert - Los Campesinos + Cymbals Eat Guitars—-April 26th
Posted by Charlee Redman on 04/20 at 10:34 AM
The music of Los Campesinos is like warm weather - it feeds the itch to frolic and jump around a little in the sun, to walk down the street and smile. Yes, this sounds silly and childish. But Los Campesinos’ cheery back and forth vocal style and high energy pop songs emanate such a carefree happiness. Their bright guitars and brisk percussion aren’t immature, but exuberant.

Record Store to Continue City Lights’ Legacy
Posted by Charlee Redman on 04/20 at 10:25 AM
When City Lights Records closed earlier this year, the State College music scene lost a valuable resource. For years, local residents had gone to the independent store to buy vinyl, CDs, and memorabilia and maybe strike up a conversation with Greg Gabbard, the man who became the face of the business. It was a place where old and new music met and concerts and albums were promoted. It was the musical epicenter for local artists.

No Age, Local Acts Rock Arts Crawl
Posted by Charlee Redman on 04/20 at 10:18 AM
From classrooms and hallways, young musicians and artists practiced their craft for a nomadic crowd on Friday, April 9th. The fourth annual Arts Crawl, a five and a half hour synthesis of student art and music, brought an audience of all ages to listen to bands, watch performing artists, and create something to take home (there were even pillowcase superhero capes to make).
