RADIO: WPSU’s StoryCorps: Paula Wales and Brandon Zlupko – Tuesday at 7:33am and 8:33am – Brandon Zlupko talks to his grandmother Paula Wales about growing up in Altoona during WWII and meeting her husband.

RADIO FEATURE: Jeffrey Seigel – Wednesday at 7:33am and 8:33am – WPSU’s Kristine Allen talks with pianist Jeffrey Seigel about the piano music of Frederic Chopin. Siegel will give an all-Chopin concert Wednesday night to celebrate this year’s Chopin bicentennial as part of Penn State’s Centre for the Performing Arts Series on the University Park Campus.

RADIO FEATURE: Le Jeune Chef – Thursday at 7:33 and 8:33am – WPSU’s Emily Wiley spends the day at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport to find out how young chefs are educated in gourmet food and wine.

RADIO FEATURE: Simple Gifts – Friday at 7:33 and 8:33am - WPSU’s Kristine Allen speaks with Linda Littleton and Karen Hirshon, two members of the folk group Simple Gifts.  They discuss their diverse musical influences, what makes a great tune and what they’ll play in concert at the Reitz Theatre in Dubois on Friday night.

RADIO FEATURE: Amish Fiction – Friday at 6:50 and 8:50am – WPSU’s Emily Reddy finds out about the allure of the Amish novel from a New York Times Bestselling “Bonnet Book” writer and her fans.

RADIO SPECIAL: A Nittany Valley Symphony Preview – Friday at noon – Roberta Strebel, Executive Director of the Nittany Valley Symphony joins WPSU’s Kristine Allen for an hour of music previewing the coming season of Nittany Valley Symphony concerts.
                                         
TV: Secrets of Shangri-La – Tuesday, 9pm – A fascinating chronicle of the journey to and exploration of long-abandoned, human-carved caves on steep cliffs in the kingdom of Mustang, located in a remote corner of the Himalaya. Explorers and scholars must scale the cliffs in order to access the contents of the caves, which include 14th-century wall paintings, human remains and a centuries-old library of sacred texts. Once on location, however, the team faces a youth political group that believes it should control the caves’ treasures.

TV: Conversations from Penn State – Thursday, 9pm – In the first half-hour, Patty Satlaia talks with Allen Sack, author of Counterfeit Amateurs.  In the world of collegiate athletics, students are increasingly treated as commodities rather than pupils. Sack discusses the drawbacks involved with this shift in values as well as what the future of college sports might look like. In the second part, filmmaker Ken Burns discuss his career, his belief in the power of film to change lives, and the letter he’s carried in his wallet for more than twenty years.

TV: Protecting Paradise: The Western Everglades – Sunday, 6pm – A documentary about efforts to protect the western edge of Florida’s Everglades from development, featuring archival footage and photos, and remarks from biologists, environmentalists and leaders of the early conservation movement.
