Radio & TV Worth Catching
Radio Feature: Transportation Security – Wednesday at 7:33am and 8:33am during Morning Edition – Two 9/11 terrorists started that fateful flight by boarding a small, commuter plane in Portland Maine—perhaps because they expected security to be less stringent there. In the wake of recent events like the Christmas Day “underwear bomber,” what’s security like at small, rural airports in Pennsylvania? WPSU’s Cynthia Berger visits Blair County Regional Airport to find out.
Radio Interview: Time for a Constitutional Convention in PA? – Friday at 7:33am and 8:33am during Morning Edition – Many of Pennsylvania’s rules and laws were established back in 1873—when Ulysses S. Grant was in the White House. A growing number of groups say it’s long past time for legislative reform; they’re pushing for a state constitutional convention. WPSU’s Patty Satalia talks with Russ Eshleman, former bureau chief of the Philadelphia Inquirer, about the why, what, when and how of constitutional change.
TV: TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE – Tuesday, 8pm – More than 42 million children and adults in the U.S. sing in choruses. They perform music that provides a means of expressing something greater than each individual participant —whether in concert halls, churches, or town squares. Guests: Anthony Leach, associate professor of music and music education at Penn State & Gilbert Lewis Bailey II, student in musical theatre at Penn State.
TV: GREAT PERFORMANCES AT THE MET – “The Audition” – Wednesday, 9pm – A documentary about the 2007 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, in which contestants compete for cash prizes and the opportunity to launch a major operatic career. The competition is seen through the eyes of three hopefuls.
TV: CONVERSATIONS FROM PENN STATE – “Peter Matthiessen” Thursday, 9pm – Renowned author, naturalist, and activist Peter Matthiessen discusses his books and travels and reveals the only adventure he’s ever regretted.
