Help 4 Haiti Benefit Concert on Saturday
Posted by Charlee Redman on 03/18 at 11:48 PM
The Abba Java Coffeehouse (at the corner of Locust Lane and Calder Way downtown) will hold a concert on Saturday March 20th at 6:30pm. Admission is just $2 and proceeds will be donated to the relief effort for Haiti.
Lansdale-based indie rock band Kafei will headline the concert as part of their Mini Midwest Tour. Kafei, which grew out of the three band members’ close friendship, has recently released their debut full-length album Intimacy Addiction. Their music is richly melodic and reflective, with variegated song structures that keep things interesting.
Kafei will be joined by their tourmates Adobayondei, a more experimental group from Philadelphia. The band’s songs are characterized by spacey vocals and somewhat hazy lo-fi guitars.
State College’s very own student musicians The Fiddlercrabs and soloist Ethan Palmer will also perform. The Fiddlercrabs blend elements of retro 60s surf-rock with reverb-heavy shoegaze guitars (they even do a cover of The Rivieras’ hit “California Sun”). Ethan Palmer combines resonant piano with a witty lyrics and distinctive vocals. He’s currently working on an album called Where My Haters At?, which you can preview here.
You can also RSVP at the concert’s Facebook page.
