Keb’ Mo’ Preview: State Theatre on Monday
Posted by Michael Giannelli on 11/08 at 02:48 AM
In a career that has spanned almost four decades, Keb’ Mo’ has carved out his place in the history of blues performers. Born in South Central Los Angeles in 1951, Kevin Moore became Keb’ Mo’ early in his recording career, continuing the tradition of nicknamed bluesmen.
While still singing about the troubles of love and life, Keb’ Mo’ never seems to end up in the bottom of a whiskey bottle. His particular brand of blues is unique in that it keeps true to his musical influences but sends a message that is steeped in optimism.
Keb’ Mo’s style crosses a wide platform of genres including rock, folk, and jazz. However, the prime roots of his guitar work come from the Mississippi Delta, and it is when he reverts back to these roots that his subtle greatness truly shows.
Keb’ Mo’s work has been rewarded with three Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Blues Album as well as several other nominations. In 2003, he was included in Martin Scorsese’s movie “Feel Like Going Home.”
Keb’ Mo’ has become an ambassador of the blues, carrying the torch from the artists that came before him and who inspired his name.
• Keb’ Mo’ is playing at the State Theatre Monday, November 9 @ 8pm.
• Tickets are $44 and all ages are welcome.
