The Mission of Public TV?

Posted by Greg Petersen on 03/20 at 09:42 PM

Is public TV still necessary?

Some say that public TV is irrelevant. Not needed with the advent of the “500 channel universe.”  But those same critics have no answer when asked what will replace the NEWSHOUR?  SESAME STREET?  MASTERPIECE THEATRE?  FRONTLINE? NOVA?  You get the point.  The commercial marketplace is just that ... commercially successful programs see the light of day, ones that can’t provide enough eyeballs for advertisers never do.

Public TV takes the chances, and provides the programming that no one else will.
