Tonight: Roustabout! Presents The Spinto Band and Folklore
Posted by Charlee Redman on 04/02 at 04:12 PM
The Chronic Town Hookah Lounge, closed after a fire way back in December, will celebrate its re-opening on April 2nd with a concert. The unique venue will return to its place in the local music scene at 9pm with The Spinto Band and Folklore.
Delaware natives The Spinto Band will spin their quirky indie-pop in the re-decorated lounge. The band, which has released seven albums over the past eight years, sounds like a less poppy Bishop Allen with its layered vocals and tongue-in-cheek eclectic style. (Check out “Crack the Whip” and “Summer Grof” on their Myspace or Youtube). Each of their songs is different, from the subtle beach jam “Brazil” to the digital bop of “Japan is an Island” from the album Nice and Nicely Done.
Hailing from Philadelphia and Athens, Georgia, Folklore is a lo-fi folk-rock gem spawned from the mind of Elf Power guitarist Jimmy Hughes. A sense of authenticity flows through their multi-instrumental romping. The band has recorded two albums (the concept album The Ghost of H.W. Beaverman and Carpenter’s Falls) with another on the way. Spinning lyrical yarns inspired by diverse locales, Folklore’s songs have the vocal candor of The Mountain Goats and the storytelling power of their compatriots Of Montreal, who also sprang up from Athens.
