A Taste of India

Fairs & Festivals

5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

The Penn State campus organization- Association for India’s Development (AID) is organizing its Annual Fundraiser A Taste of India on the 10th of April. We have been conducting this event since 1998 showcasing the diverse cuisine and culture of various parts of India. About 500 people from Central Pennsylvania attend our event each year. Through ‘Taste of India’ our organization also hopes to raise awareness regarding interconnected social problems affecting India in particular and the world in general, and the efforts of NGOs to solve these. Nearly every member of the sizable Indian community in Centre County is involved in organizing ‘Taste of India’. The venue for the event is the State College Area High School South Building.

Tickets for the event are available at India Pavilion, Krishan Grocery Store, East West Crossings and Webster’s Cafe Book Store.

The money raised through our event, which was about $12,000 last year, is used to fund non-governmental organizations (NGOs) participating in developmental programs in India. In all, over the last 3 years, we have distributed more than $35,000 to partner NGOs which are working on solving environmental, educational, health and gender equality problems in India. Further, this year, we have pledged a part of the money we raise to support local food-banks in Central Pennsylvania.

Other than ‘Taste of India’, through activities such as runners raising money while training for marathons, Indian classical dance-drama and music concerts, the Penn State chapter of AID has been raising about $30,000 of funds each year. This money has been used to fund about 14 projects since 1998.
