Eileen Ivers Beyond the Bog Road
Live Music: Folk
Friday, March 19, 2010 7:30 PM
Internationally renowned violinist Eileen Ivers’ Beyond the Bog Road—a multimedia concert of music, story, dance, and film—celebrates the journey of immigrants. The production—featuring Ivers, her band Immigrant Soul, guest musicians, and dancers—tells the story of Irish immigrants’ impact on America and America’s impact on them. Ivers grew up in a culturally diverse neighborhood of the Bronx, but her spiritual home is the Emerald Isle. The daughter of Irish immigrants, Ivers began playing traditional Celtic music when she was 8. She won nine All-Ireland fiddle championships, starred as the lead fiddler in Riverdance, and helped found the band Cherish the Ladies. In addition to her work with Immigrant Soul, the fiddler performs as a soloist with major symphony orchestras and appears as a guest with prominent musicians of many genres.
