Jerry Zolten: Writing about Music

Lectures

7-8:30 pm

Jerry Zolten will be the featured speaker at the Nittany Valley Writers Network meeting. Zolten is a musician, associate professor of communications at Penn State Altoona, and music producer for the Fairfield Four (known to most people from O Brother Where Art Thou). Zolten will discuss how he has integrated his passion for American roots music into a writing side business that has included books (Great God A’Mighty! The Dixie Hummingbirds: Celebrating the Rise of Soul Gospel Music), cd liner notes, magazine and journal articles, radio programs, including Chimpin’ the Blues, a syndicated show on public radio with Robert Crumb, and other outlets. Zolten has also been a speaker with the Pennsylvania Humanities Council Commonwealth Speakers Program. His latest work, “The Beatles as Recording Artists,” will appear in the forthcoming The Cambridge Companion to the Beatles (Cambridge University Press).
