Juniata River Sojourn

Sports/Recreation

all week!

The Juniata Clean Water Partnership is excited to announce the 10th Annual River Sojourn to be held on the Juniata River from June 12th through June 19th, 2010. The Juniata River Sojourn is an educational and fun guided canoe and kayak journey celebrating the beautiful river as well as the natural, cultural and historical resources of the Juniata River Valley.  The theme of this year’s sojourn is “Juniata Journey: Exploring the Main Line Canal Greenway” with programs to highlight the canal and rail heritage along the river and the Main Line Canal Greenway initiative.

Sojourners will begin to congregate on Saturday, June 12th with an evening program.  On Sunday, June 13th, sojourners will enter the Main stem of the Juniata River. We will embark on a 94-mile journey down the Juniata River for a total of 7 days. The sojourn will end in Newport.  Join fellow paddlers, explore the river, and enjoy camping at many different sites along the river. There are various programs scheduled for each evening, many of them are open to the public. Choose to attend one day, several days, or the entire week. If you do not have your own canoe or kayak, Rothrock Outfitters will have rentals available.

Registration opens April 1st. To obtain materials, please call 814-506-1190. Fees will be $40 for JCWP members and $45 for non-JCWP members. Registration closes May 28th. For more information, please contact Johanna Mutti at 814-506-1190 or check out our website; http://www.jcwp.org  under events, then sojourn.
