Lectures

8 p.m.

Marvin Cohen, a Professor of Physics and University Professor at the University of California at Berkeley and a Senior Faculty Scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, will present the Russell Marker Lectures in the Physical Sciences on 6 and 7 October 2010 at the Penn State University Park Campus. The free public lectures are sponsored by the Penn State Eberly College of Science and will take place in 117 Osmond Laboratory.

The series begins with a public lecture, titled “Some Recent Theoretical Studies of Nanostructure, Photovoltaics, and Superconductors,” on 6 October at 8:00 p.m. Before the lecture, refreshments will be served at 7:15 p.m. in the lobby of Osmond Laboratory. In this lecture, Cohen will describe recent theoretical developments in the areas of nanophysics, electronic structure, and superconductivity with an emphasis on boron-nitride nanotubes, graphene, photovoltaics, and the search for higher-temperature superconductors.
