Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour Featuring Kenny Barron Trio, Regina Carter, Kurt Elling, and Russell
Live Music: Classical
7:30 PM
The Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour celebrates one of the longest-running and most important jazz festivals with a stellar gathering of musicians. A Jazz Weekly critic calls Kenny Barron “the most lyrical piano player of our time.” Early in his career, Barron performed with Dizzy Gillespie, James Hubbard, Stanley Turrentine, and Milt Jackson. Today—his playing elegant as ever—he leads his own trio. Violinist Regina Carter, a Time writer insists, “creates music that is wonderfully listenable, probingly intelligent, and, at times, breathtakingly daring.” Singer Kurt Elling, whose baritone spans four octaves and displays an astonishing balance of technical facility and emotional depth, has attained elite status with six consecutive years at the top of the Down Beat Critics’ and JazzTimes Readers’ polls. Guitarist Russell Malone has performed with many jazz musicians, but it’s his work on recordings and international tours with Diana Krall that’s earned him widespread critical and audience acclaim.
