Moore the Liberator
Art & Museum Exhibits
7:00 p.m.
Activist and animal rights philosopher Tom Regan will explain how his study of British moral philosopher G. E. Moore—a major influence on the Bloomsbury artists—led to his own commitment to a rights-based understanding of the moral ties that bind humans to other animals. Regan is the author of many books, including Empty Cages: Facing the Challenge of Animal Rights; All That Dwell Therein: Essays on Animal Rights and Environmental Ethics; and Bloomsbury’s Prophet: G. E. Moore and the Development of His Moral Philosophy. Presented as part of the 2010 Philosophy in an Inclusive Key Summer Institute and co-sponsored by the museum, the Department of Philosophy, the interdisciplinary Visualizing Animals group, and the Vegetarian Club. Additional support provided by the University Park Allocation Committee.
