Rev War Days
Historic: living history
11 AM - 5 PM
The Revolutionary War Comes Alive at Fort Roberdeau - Altoona, PA, June 23, 2009
Fort Roberdeau will come alive with the sights and sounds of Colonial America during the annual Revolutionary War Days, Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12, 2009. Costumed re-enactors from the Altoona vicinity, Pittsburgh, Lancaster County (PA), Fort Niagara (NY), and Washington (DC) will make Fort Roberdeau their home for two days of fun and history during Revolutionary War Days, Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12, 2009 from 11 AM until 5 PM. The fort will be attacked by treacherous British Loyalists each day at 3 PM.
In 1778 and 1779, Central Pennsylvania was the most dangerous place in North America. There were no British redcoats battling George Washington’s army out here, but there were plenty of fighters, including militiamen, British and American rangers, American Indians, and private citizens protecting their families and farms. The stakes were high, and spies were everywhere. Rumors of murders and atrocities terrorized settlers all along the Pennsylvania frontier. During Rev War Days, scenes from this real life drama will be ripped from the history books and staged on the grounds of Fort Roberdeau.
Throughout the day, special programs and tours of the Fort will be available. The field camp will be open to visitors, and costumed staff will demonstrate some of the chores of 18th century frontier life, including colonial cooking. There will also be a fashion show (see what all the best dressed were wearing in Colonial America), craftspeople, and special activities for kids.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 4-11.
