Special Screening of Food, Inc.

Film

4:00pm

The movie Food, Inc. lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA.

Come and see the film and then join The State Theatre, in cooperation with HomegrownHappyValley.org for a special panel discussion and local food reception. The panelists will include Bruce A. McPheron, new dean of Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences; Brian Snyder, executive director of the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA); Kim Tait (Tait Farm); Chef Mark Ott (Director of Dining Services for Bald Eage Area School district) and Chef Harrison Schailey (Harrison’s in the Hilton Garden Inn). The panel will address both the broad issues raised in the movie, as well as ways members of this particular community can actively support a more sustainable food system.

Webster’s Cafe on 128 S. Allen Street is hosting a post-movie reception and local food celebration, which will allow audience members to continue the conversation, while sampling some of the food and beverages that are unique to our neighborhood. We hope you can join us to learn about restaurants and businesses in the area that support local food/services and talk with other community members about opportunities in our area.
