The Actors’ Gang The Trial of the Catonsville Nine

Live Music: Classical

Tuesday, February 02, 2010 7:30 PM

In Daniel Berrigan’s The Trial of the Catonsville Nine, The Actors’ Gang of Los Angeles brings to life the dramatic historical trial in 1968 of two Catholic priests and seven fellow activists who committed what they believed to be an act of civil disobedience in protest of the war in Vietnam. Their civil dissent galvanized the national protest movement. While condemned as criminals in a court of law, the Catonsville Nine were hailed as patriots in the streets during one of America’s most turbulent eras. The play asserts the moral imperative of committing civil disobedience when national hubris and global corporate interests act against the welfare of the nation and the wellbeing of the international community. Oscar-winning actor Tim Robbins co-founded The Actors’ Gang in 1981 and serves as the company’s artistic director. The presentation includes a post-performance discussion among the actors and audience members. Audio description, which is especially helpful to patrons with sight loss, is available for this performance at no extra charge to ticket holders.
