The Diabesity Tsunami: Facing the Crisis of Diabetes and Obesity (Research Unplugged)
Lectures
12:00 PM
On October 20, join Associate Professor of Medicine, Robert Gabbay for a discussion of The Diabesity Tsunami: Facing the Crisis of Diabetes and Obesity.
According to the USDA’s 2010 dietary guidelines report, obesity is “the single greatest threat to public health in this century.” Over the past 30 years, rates of obesity and type 2 diabetes rates have skyrocketed, giving rise to the term ‘diabesity’ to describe these often intertwined conditions. Yet the general public seems to dismiss weight issues as the stuff of monthly magazines or the fallout from broken New Year’s Resolutions and failed diet plans. It seems a paradigm shift is needed: What can we do?
Please join us for an informative and thought-provoking discussion on this important topic!
