Turning Up the Volume on the Ethical Dimensions of Climate Change

Timely presentation by Dr. Donald Brown, who will examine the practical importance of the ethical framing of climate change and the implications for public policy. Brown will also address the ethical issues raised by proposed solutions to climate change, such as biofuels, wind, solar, and geologic carbon sequestration.
Brown is the Director of the Collaborative Program on Ethical Dimensions of Climate Change and Associate Professor for Environmental Ethics, Science and Law at Penn State University.
Brown has over 25 years of experience in senior environmental legal and management positions, including senior counsel for sustainable development at Pennsylvania DEP, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of International Environmental Affairs.
One of Time Magazine’s top 15 green websites, http://www.climateethics.org is the collaborative program’s commentary site on climate change science and policy.
His recent book American Heat: Ethical Problems with the United States Response to Global Warming argues for an ethical focus on our environmental challenges to achieve a globally acceptable solution.
An internationally renowned climate ethics scholar, Brown helped author Pennsylvania’s Climate Change Act, which passed in 2008, and provides counsel on energy policy issues including carbon sequestration.
