We’d like to honor McGarrigle’s memory this weekend by broadcasting some songs written or performed by her.  If you’ll share one or two of your favorites,  we’ll try to fit them in.

To start it off, I’ll suggestion Heart Beats Accelerating.  I haven’t played it in a while,  but remember it well.

There are two great French songs off Dancer with Bruised Knees. The songs tell very strange stories. The are Blanche Comme La Neige and Perrine Etait Servante. The first tells the tale of a young maiden (basically Snow White) who feigns death and stays entombed for three days to escape interludes with three travelers. The second and quite interesting goes like this:” Perrine, the servant of the village priest, has her boyfriend come over after dinner; the boyfriend suggests that they embrasser; the priest, seeing them, hides in the pantry…where he is stuck for six weeks, completely forgotten. When his household finally remembers him, they find his corpse in the pantry, eaten by rats!”

Plus, it is accompanied by an accordion! This is quite an interesting album and features musicians from Bill Monroe, Buddy Spicher (from Dubois!), Jay Ungar and John Cale (of the Velvet Underground!)

I’d play them if I were on.
