It was an Acoustic Brew Concert, not a religious gathering, but the electricity of the performers lit up the Center for Well-Being in Lemont, in the same what an old-time tent revival would fire up a congregation of back-sliders. I see now where “Sparky” got his name! The stories and exhortations breathed new life into great old songs like Reuben’s Train and CC Rider, and Sparky and Rhonda extended the folk tradition with their own material like “One Earth.” In addition to being energized and entertained, I learned a bunch of cool stuff, including that the “CC” in “CC Rider” refers to the “Church Circuit, ” wherein a traveling sanctified preacher led services across a wide geographic area, riding from town to town on horseback. I could go on, but I just wanted to take a moment to remember one of the best concerts I’ve attended!
