Heard this band at a 1930’s era music hall in the tiny village of Stecoah NC. (the population of the entire county is 8,000). What a treat: mostly original songs performed in a very traditional style on dobro, bass, mando, fiddle and guitar. All but the dobro player sing, two male and two female voices. And the dobro player just took first prize at the Grassy Top competition in Colo. They’ve only been together 3 years, but obviously have been playing a lot of gigs—they’re very tight rhythmically and vocally.
I brought back a CD for the WPSU library, and it will be in the collection later tonight. I’m sure it will be getting some spins on the Folk Show. Very nice stuff !
They’ll be at the Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center Sat Aug 21, the Stage on Herr venue (a reference to Herr Street) More info at the wpsu.org/folk home page.
