If you’re looking for Folk on Christmas,  tune in to WPSU from 7-8 am,  and also 9-10 pm.  Almost every song is directly related to Christmas (I did sneak in one solstice song),  and range from the well-known to the obscure,  as well as the sweet to slightly skewed (more of the skewed on the late episode !)  Artists include Odetta, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Robin and Linda Williams, John Prine, Nowell Sing We Clear, Abby Gardner, Dave Carter and James McMurty.  Merry Christmas!

Three albums that come immediately to mind are Robin and Linda William _The First Christmas Gift_,  Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum _Winter Grace_ and Joel Mabus _How Like the Holly_.  Of course, lots of other folkies have released terrific CDs with Christmas and solstice songs.  If you like a slightly skewed take on the holiday,  try Chuck Brodsky’s song “On Christmas I got nothing” on _Radio_

Hanging a wreath in ancient Rome signified victory, and it’s said that the tradition of hanging a wreath at Christmas time is derived from this ancient practice. Its significance for Christmas would be to symbolize God’s victory over Satan with the birth of Jesus.
