YUM!  Great idea for a show!  Paul beat me to suggesting Jack Williams’ Mama Lou; great song.  One of my favorite food songs—you can gain about 10 pounds just listening to it—is unfortunately not our format, but fyi just because it’s fun: Junior’s Grill (NBDB, The Rest of the Dream CD).  Another delicious one is Kate Campbell’s Funeral Food: “We sure eat good when someone dies…it’s so good for the soul.”

And now some that might fit our format butter, er I mean better.  Several fit food but don’t necessarily fit nutrition:
Health Food (Fitzgerald and Beach)
You Can Eat Dog Food (Austin Lounge Lizards)
Tastes Like Chicken (Austin Lounge Lizards)
Toasted Chicken Sandwich (Carla Ulbrich)
Bread Alone (Jay Mankita)
Let us Break Bread Together (many)
Boot Soup (Tanglewood)
Cornbread and ‘Lasses and Sassafras Tea (John Lilly—bonus for upcoming Acoustic Brew artist!)
Apples and Pears (Rosalie Sorrells)
Soup (John McCutcheon)
Roadfoad (Cozy Sheridan)
Taters and Gravy and Chicken Fried Steak (Stinson)
Orange Cocoa Cake (Fink/Marxer, Sandy Cash)
Vegetables of Love (Flint Westrock)
Cornbread and Butterbeans (Hushpuppies, Wiyos, Carolina Chocolate Drops)
Beefsteak When I’m Hungry (Toby Walker)
Banana Man (Bergmann Brothers)
Seven Pies (Still on the Hill
Dance in the Kitchen (Tom Paxton)
Buttermilk Pie (Chris Stuart)
Instrumentals:
Give Me Cornbread When I’m Hungry ( John Fahey)
Alphabet Soup (David Grier)
Porkchops and Applesauce (David Grier)
Smith’s Red Apple Rag (Skip Gorman)
Cuttin’ the Cornbread (Ralph Stanley)
King Corn (Greg Brown)
plus there are some bluegrass covers of Cheeseburger in Paradise out there…..

ok, gotta stop and go make dinner!  Looking forward to your show with bated breath and rumblin’ stomach.

Cream Corn - Pete Seeger (maybe the Weavers)

Come On In My Kitchen - many versions, my current favorite is Crooked Still’s

maybe something from Barbecue Bob or Catfish Keith (both blues) would be appropriate?

couple of great songs off of Lyle Lovett’s I Love Everybody talk about food prominently plus his song Church

Your Biscuits are Big Enough For Me - Blind Blake (OK, this one isn’t about food REALLY…  haha)

Texas Cookin - Guy Clark

Ol’ Cook Pot - the Duhks (off Migrations—good tune)
Mighty Sweet Watermelon - Greg Brown (Evening Call - might be a bit too produced depending on your show and when it is)
Jambalaya - Hank (but lots of versions)
A Glazele Yash (A Glass of Wine) - Nikitov (off Vanderlust, sung in Yiddish)
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer - lots, but I think there’s a copy of Backwater Blues from Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee in the library that has a great version
