If you have any interest in traditional American rural music,  music that can trace its roots back to Ireland, Europe, Africa, and other cultures,  you don’t want to miss Mike Seeger.  Don’t expect a flashy “show” from this younger (76) brother of Pete Seeger.  (Mike is two years older than sister Peggy Seeger)  What you will get is a masterful rendition of traditional songs on traditional instruments.  Mike has devoted much of his life to learning the music its history,  spending countless hours traveling in remote parts of Appalachian to bring to light this incredible music.  When he was 25 he was one of the founders of the New Lost City Ramblers,  and this group did much to popularize old-time music.  Mike Seeger’s influence is described at some length in Bob Dylan’s autobiography Chronicles, Vol I.    The concert takes place in Reedsville,  about 20 mins south of State College on Rt 322, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church on 200 Pine Str.

Mike is not only a fantastic instrumentalist and about the greatest authority on Southern Appalachian traditional music but he’s also a talented performer and teacher (and a pretty good contra-dancer too). His was one of the first live introductions I ever had to traditional music - a very memorable show at the Prism Coffeehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Anybody in town over break should NOT miss this show.

Please note the Evangelical Lutheran Church is located at 200 East Logan Street in Reedsville. Pine Street is located in another section of the town. Once you exit US322 take a left at the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp. Travel to the bottom of the hill, the road ends in a “T” intersection. Turn right at this traffic light. Proceed to the next traffic light and turn left. This is East Logan Street. The church is a red brick building on the third block, left hand side. The concert is in the fellowship hall. Hope to seem many old-time music, banjo and autoharp fans there.

Thanks for the directions correction Ken!  Sounds like Elizabeth will be there if she’s in town,  and Linda and I plan on heading down if she’s over her cold be then.  Patty Lambert said she was planning on heading down too.

Yeah - I’d have been there. Gigging in Florida instead. I guess you can have too much music?
