We have some pretty amazing local events happening in the Central Pennsylvania area…the Folk College and Greenwood Furnace…

I would love to hear from the artists, staff and people who have attended these events in the past…

Would love to hear what you liked about them…what you learned, what made you smile…and what you remember most…

Just curious…

I’m a little prejudiced since I put a lot of time into planning and promotion for both events, but I think one of the best things is the close proximity and access you have to the teaching artists… something I was just reminded of when I caught up with John Lilly after the Brew show. I think it’s also great that it’s still pretty affordable, and that we cover all levels, including absolute beginners. Also try to make sure there’s something for singers every time slot.

My single favorite FC moment:

Scott Ainslie playing My World, Too for me during the Saturday night concert two years ago. You’d have to know more about my background, my father, my life to know why the song is so moving to me, but damn, it made me cry.

And a year later, found out the song was just a little more prophetic than I would have liked. But I digress.

My single favorite GFFG moment:

Playing the Friday night concert last year when I taught songwriting and Carters, and having Henry Koretzky join me on mandolin on The Fire’s Still Burning. Sweeeeeet.

There’s an article about Folk College in the May issue of Voices. See http://www.voicesweb.org/archive/09may/09may-arts-entertainment.pdf.

My favorite quote from the article: “Going to school for music was good, but Folk College has been
where I’ve learned it.”
