Penn State Public Media (PSPM) is seeking a Director of Production to oversee the daily operations of the production business unit, including budgets, client management, overall unit capacity, and project intake. Typical projects include documentary, promotional (broadcast and non-broadcast), University development, marketing, promotional/recruiting videos, and events. This person will build relationships with University partners (faculty, staff, administrators) and will serve as key point person for the production unit; work with producers to facilitate the entire production workflow from concept to delivery; coordinate with the finance department on best practices and production finance needs; supervise lead producing staff and the creative services unit, including interns and freelance resources, plus additional production crew as assigned to projects; ensure that policies and procedures are followed, as well as assist in developing policies as needed; and foster and promote a team environment at PSPM. Prioritize staff assignments to ensure deadlines are met, and review work to ensure quality control and compliance with FCC and University guidelines. Develop, design, assign, and supervise projects. Manage video, audio, and multimedia projects from proposal through post-production. Demonstrate effective project management skills. Manage small- to large-scale projects with short- and long-term deadlines. Direct production crew and assigned staff in studio and on location during production shoots. Oversee the creative design and aesthetic treatment of projects, establish project audience, needs and approvals. Provide advice and consultation on quality, design and operations of productions. Coordinate work flow and schedule for production team. This job will be filled as a level 3, level 4, or level 5, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. The successful candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diverse audiences. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of renewal. WPSU/Penn State Public Media (PSPM) is a local public service media outlet for central Pennsylvania. An NPR and PBS affiliate, WPSU also extends the Penn State to local, national, and international audiences through television and radio broadcasting, podcasts, and educational outreach. The Director of Broadcasting is responsible for the oversight and development of WPSU-TV, and FM, as well as related internet streams and on-line presence. Lead efforts to provide high quality radio and TV programming, develop and execute strategic and operations plans, implement policies and procedures to achieve departmental goals and objectives consistent with the mission of the organization. The Director will manage radio and TV broadcast operations, including traffic, master control, scheduling, and engineering services. Maintain relationships including community listeners/viewers, members, underwriters, advisory board, and national organizations. Develop and manage budgets, and seek funding via grant opportunities. Maintain FCC public files and ensure regulatory compliance. Serve on senior leadership team and perform other duties as assigned. Requires extensive knowledge and experience with federal and state rules regarding broadcast operations. Must be current with emerging content distribution technologies, and knowledgeable of telecommunications industry trends. Requires advanced skills in budget management, business development and execution of objectives. This job will be filled as a level 3, level 4, or level 5, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
