Description:

WPSU is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and dynamic graduate assistant to work with our education team starting in August 2021. This position would work closely with the Education Program Manager to:

  • Create, manage, and promote WPSU’s Learning at Home education initiatives within WPSU’s coverage community;
  • Assist the outreach, marketing and events team in planning and scheduling virtual and in-person educational events, such as webinars, virtual camps, and education programs;
  • Create education curricula and programs for WPSU projects as needed;
  • Manage WPSU’s assets on PBS Learning Media; and
  • Gather and present impact data to WPSU administration and the board.

Desired Skills:

Knowledge of best practices in using media to serve K-12 audiences

  • Background in PreK-12 education with an emphasis on early education
  • Past experience working with teachers and the PA school system
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Appreciation for working with teams and diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks within identified timeframes.

Radio News Graduate Assistantship

Description:

As a WPSU graduate assistant, you’ll help produce two radio shows, BookMark and Health Minute, by working with community members and partners to edit, schedule, record, and produce audio pieces. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to our local radio news programming by conducting interviews with authors, artists, newsmakers, and interesting people in the community. You’ll come up with interview ideas, schedule, and record interviews, and put together air-ready final products. In addition, you’ll help with audio production work and research.

The successful applicant will be an energetic self-starter who is a strong writer and editor, has a clear speaking voice, and is good with both people and technology. It’s helpful if you’re familiar with the NPR style of news reporting. Audio editing experience is a plus.

Time Commitment: 20 hours/week, flexible schedule.

WPSU Penn State is seeking a project development manager to conceptualize, develop and ensure the high-quality delivery of public media and engagement projects that: incorporate innovative media production (i.e., television, radio, digital, multi-media); have externally-funded budgets of $50,000 to $2 million; foster public awareness of important Penn State programs and social issues; gain significant reach locally, regionally and/or nationally; involve academic and Outreach units; and engage multiple external partners. The position is responsible for identifying, planning, funding, delivering, and assessing public media and engagement projects that benefit the missions of WPSU Penn State, Outreach, and the University. The position collaborates with the WPSU production team and with University development, foundation relations, and sponsored programs. This role provides strategic direction, leadership, and management for the project development function. This role also ensures project compliance with the policies of Federal, state, foundation, and corporate funders, as well as with University policies. Critical skills include cross-functional team building, project design, budgeting, prospect identification, grant strategy, proposal writing, solicitation, project oversight, and post-award reporting.  A Master’s degree or higher and  3+ years of related experience (or an equivalent combination) is required. Qualified candidates will demonstrate leadership, the ability to include diverse voices, and an appreciation for public media.
