WPSU Morning Edition host Mel DeYoung makes the ultimate mic drop, retiring from daily radio shift

Mel DeYoung has hosted WPSU’s Morning Edition for the last 13 years. Before that, he spent a couple of decades as a host and the coordinator of WPSU’s Folk Show. Mel has decided he wants more time for travel, home projects, and sleep. July 10 was his last day as WPSU’s regular Morning Edition host. Some of his WPSU coworkers shared their thoughts about Mel. At PA Firefly Festival in Forest County, visitors and researchers experience synchronous fireflies

Sarah Lower, an assistant professor of biology at Bucknell University, and student Susan Deering were catching fireflies on a recent afternoon at a farm in Kellettville, Pennsylvania, in Forest County. But it wasn't just for fun. They're studying the insects, particularly the ones that don't light up as adults. Instead researchers believe they emit pheromones and use smell to communicate.
