This position contributes to our mission by providing financial and data analysis support related to our production work which includes assisting in the development and tracking of project budgets using WPSU’s production management system and the University’s financial system; compiling and preparing invoicing, monthly budget reports and other key performance indicator data used for strategic decision-making; and, facilitating key recurring meetings including production pipeline and new prospects. Responsibilities will also include reviewing broadcast and production underwriting invoicing, coordinating contracts approval requests through the contract tracking system, and participating in special projects as requested.

Education and Experience:

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher plus 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Successful candidates should demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, excellent organization skills, a customer service focus, excellent written or oral communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse audiences. Experience with effectively using Excel is required.

Part Time Radio Reporter

Description:

WPSU is looking for a part-time journalist to cover the critical issues our communities face. The reporter will create short news stories and longer features on events, issues and trends throughout the 13 central Pennsylvania counties WPSU covers.

WPSU is located in the hometown of Penn State University and licensed to the university. State College is a vibrant college town full of cultural opportunities, surrounded by natural beauty. New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and D.C. are all within a 3-5 hour drive.

Key Responsibilities:

· Pitch, report, write and produce daily news stories and feature stories for radio, the web and social media.

· Gather audio, take photos and videos, and use AP style in writing.

· Use audio editing software to put together stories for air. (WPSU uses Hindenburg and Adobe Audition.)

· Contact, interview and cultivate relationships with a diverse array of sources.

· Serve as on-air host for daily news magazine shows as needed.

· Take part in on-air fundraising.

· Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Requires a bachelor’s degree, plus at least one year of reporting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Strong writing, editing, interviewing and on-air delivery.

· Good news judgment and a passion for local news.

· A commitment to ethical, accurate journalism.

· Multimedia experience preferred; Basic photography skills required.

· Experience supporting/advancing diversity and inclusion.

· Self-motivated enough to work alone, but collaborative enough to work with a team.

· Ability to work some nights and weekends, as news requires.

· Familiarity with central Pennsylvania is a bonus.

· Reporter must have access to transportation in order to travel for stories.

· A valid driver’s license and standard background checks are required.

Compensation:

· The position is 20 hours a week and base pay is $17.50/hr.

WPSU (https://wpsu.org/) is searching for a Director of Finance to serve as the top financial manager for the PBS and NPR affiliate station at Penn State. This position is responsible for communicating with and reporting to internal and external funding and regulatory agencies and industry groups, such as the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), PBS, NPR, the FCC, other public media stations, as well as the University’s external auditors. This key senior-level director at WPSU provides strategic direction and resource planning for WPSU, addresses broad issues and evaluates impact of decisions and all policy and procedures changes. The position oversees all financial, compliance, and budgeting processes for WPSU and oversees the work of others who have advanced skills in financial operations, contract review, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. Oversight also includes significant contract and grant administration, particularly related to WPSU’s federal and state funding. Position oversees creation of audited financial statements in compliance with FASB and GAAP requirements and manages the annual external financial audit. This position also performs advanced analyses, solves complex issues/problems, and presents financial results to WPSU staff, Outreach Executive Management and the WPSU Board of Representatives.

Education and Experience:

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher plus 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Also requires a working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, and excellent communication and problem solving skills.  Audit experience and a CPA license are preferred.
