Become a Volunteer

WPSU Penn State would not be able to achieve its goals without our crew of dedicated and talented volunteers! Their commitment helps us achieve our mission to spark discovery, enrich learning and strengthen community through vibrant public media. YOU can also make a difference by joining our volunteer team. Individuals and groups are welcome to volunteer regularly or on an “as-needed” basis helping with administrative work, fundraising, and special events.

Benefits of Volunteering

WPSU volunteers help keep the “public” in public media. As an extension of our team, you get to:

  • Explore WPSU behind the scenes
  • Contribute to activities and projects that showcase your interest, talent, and skills
  • Meet other volunteers and network with experienced staff
  • Support public broadcasting and help WPSU fulfill its community education mission
  • Receive invitations to special events

How Do Volunteers Help?

As a volunteer you will be supporting public television while meeting new people, developing new skills, and taking on significant roles. WPSU has a variety of opportunities for students, seniors, and professionals from all walks of life. Review our current Volunteer Opportunities and share your talent and skills as you:

  • Answer phones or be an on-air host during FM and TV fundraising drives
  • Help us in the office
  • Assist with event preparation
  • Lend a hand at an event
  • Mentor and lead a volunteer group
  • Assist with station tours
  • Be a WPSU-FM on-air weeknight or weekend host

What is our Orientation Training?

Learn about WPSU and our volunteer opportunities by attending one of our regular volunteer orientations. At these sessions, we provide background on our organization, our current volunteer needs, and the chance to sign up for volunteer opportunities.
