Fall Festival at Way Fruit Farm

It’s fall festival time in Central Pennsylvania, and these events offer fantastic opportunities to sample local food and make some discoveries of new products. This weekend we have the Wasson Farm Fall Fest, Black Moshannon Cranberry Festival, and the Way Fruit Farm Fall Festival to tell you about. Keep reading for more…

Way Fruit Farm Fall Festival, Way Fruit Farm, Port Matilda, Saturday 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Way Fruit Farm holds their Fall Festival during the second and third Saturdays in October. All sorts of fun activities can be found, including a free wagon ride out into the pumpkin patch to pick your own pumpkin, an apple slingshot, over a dozen vendors, food from the local Lion’s Club, and of course, lots and lots of those famous Way apple products. Ten percent of all earnings go to an orphanage in the Dominican Republic, so attending can count as your good deed for the weekend.

Wasson Farm Fall Fest, Wasson Farm, State College, Saturday/Sunday, 11:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.

The Wasson Farm Fall Fest runs both days this weekend, so if you are busy Saturday, you can attend Sunday. The event will feature hayrides out to the pumpkin patch to pick a pumpkin ($5 a person), plus apple butter made my steam engine (something Local Food Journey will hopefully feature in the near future). All this and a full section of typical fall stuff like mums, gourds, etc.

Cranberry Fest, Black Moshannon State Park, Philipsburg, Saturday noon-5:00 p.m.

So many apple and pumpkin fests this time of year, here’s one that’s a little different. Take a hike to find out where you can pick cranberries in the bog, make a pine cone bird feeder, try colonial candle-dipping, and enjoy a hay ride. There will be some craft sales as well. Event takes place near the Environmental Learning Center.
